ROYAL WESTERN GELBVIEH

The original purchase of one purebred Gelbvieh female in 1998 for a 4H project ultimately led to the love of this breed and the creation of Royal Western Gelbvieh.

Royal Western Gelbvieh is a family owned purebred Gelbvieh operation located 15km East of Innisfail off of highway 590. Our operation is based around strong genetics that are going to work in today's changing and demanding industry. We aim to satisfy both our commercial and purebred customers and prefer to consistently create cattle with the genetics that will work for both.

Our herd is developed using the top Gelbvieh genetics in North America. We put a great deal of thought, effort and research into choosing herd sires and creating the type of quality cattle we would like to see, help improve the breed in this changing industry.

We use the show ring as a way to promote our breed and the genetics we offer at RWG. It is also a great way to stay current with new genetics for the development of the next generation. Our goal is to produce cattle that thrive in a commercial industry, in other words, moderate thick females with excellent structure, feet and legs, as well as superior udder quality. Females that are highly maternal, fertile and have tons of longevity. Overall, females that simply get out and work.

At RWG, we calve in May/June and develop and sell coming 2 year old bulls. This has allowed us to get away from the typical pampered purebred herd that calve in the winter and instead have our cattle grazing in the winter, thus allowing us to have our cattle working in the "real world". In conditions with limited resources, we still require them to raise a good calf every year or they are culled. This has also allowed us to run our cow herd as hard or harder than the commercial herds our bulls work in when they leave daughters behind that we want to work for that beef producer. Therefore, we ensure that they come from a genetic base that can thrive in any environment.

Our bulls are all performance tested and fertility checked as yearlings so we don't loose sight of early maturity and fertility while we develop our coming 2 year olds. These bulls cover more cows and don't require the extra nutrition the first winter like most yearling bulls.

Bulls are marketed by private treaty. We do not sell our bulls through a bull sale as we prefer the one on one contact with the buyers and give them the opportunity to tour our herd, see the females we produce and the dam's of any bulls they are interested in. This also allows us to find out what our buyers are looking for and in turn help them find the bull that suits their needs.

Feel free to call us and set up a time to take a tour and find your next herd sire. We would be glad to have you.
